My Jammy Old Nana
My Nana (Your Granny, Gran, Nonny or whatever you call the old crumbly women in your family) collected ha’pennies – half a penny in old money.
She collected them in a jam jar. When ha’pennies ceased to exist once the shiny new decimal coins had moved in, she collected the spanking new half penny’s instead. When they waved adios, claiming that no-one (except for my Nana) loved them, she moved upmarket and started collecting “tiddlers” the tiny sixpence pieces that were somehow allowed to stay in circulation way after all the other coins turned decimal.
Was she a batty old woman? No. She was very old at that time and totally housebound, but she was still managing to do a very remarkable thing. The unwanted coins from her own and visitors purses and pockets, went via her jam jar to the local children’s hospital.

Could it be possible that your grandchild is amongst children aged as young as three years old, who are being offered pole dancing lessons? It’s a depressing thought.
The £5-an-hour Little Spinners classes teach strip club-style routines to kids barely old enough to talk. They are held at the Make Me Fabulous dance studio in Northampton and came to light in the week a Government report blasted the growing sexualisation of children.

We thought it was bad enough when supermarkets were selling padded bra’s to our beloved granddaughters and tight spangled outfits more appropriate for street hooker wear, but now it seems that things have gone a step further. UK mum Kerry Campbell, now living in the USA, went on Good Morning America to brag about giving her 8 year old daughter Britney, Botox injections – to enable her to become a star.

Virtualgranny and granddaughter Lily became super models for the day thanks to Yours magazine the fortnightly publication aimed at the over 50’s, who decided to feature yours truly in their Gran Matters section of the magazine, deciding that the story of a step-granny with no kids of her own and a website aimed at grandparents merited a spot in their best selling mag.

Well you may have just waved goodbye to the grandchildren after the Easter Hols and breathed a big sigh of relief to have your home back to yourself- even if it does resemble The Wreck of The Hesperus.
You may even have had the odd thought, as you brush eggy bread off your top whilst reaching for the nearest bottle of alcohol rather than milk formulae, that you may finally be a bit past your sell-by date as far as all this looking after children malarkey goes.
So grab a cuppa, sink down in your seat and look at this lovely little video poem and remember that you do have a chance to have your time again. This time with your grandchildren

An unwanted house guest arrived at our place a few weeks back and despite my best efforts to ignore him, he seems to be hanging around way too long. Rumour has it he may even stick around forever. I hope not. Few house guests have been such a pain, popping up out of the blue, putting the kybosh on everyday activities. Believe me, when Arthur rears his ugly head in the kitchen it’s impossible to even prepare a meal, let alone open a bottle of nicely chilled wine without him spoiling everything.

Are your grandchildren fussy eaters? It can be tricky to know how best to deal with the situation, especially if like me, you are a grannie who has grandchildren spread far and wide. Our older ones come to stay over extended periods during their school holidays, rather than popping in every day or two for their tea, which is a bit of a shame in some ways and especially where eating is concerned, as their tastes are constantly changing and we sometimes struggle to keep up to speed.
